His Grace, Richard the Duke of Buccleuch officially opened the new museum in the restored Corn Exchange on May 25th. Aproximately 45 people attended the event which was a great success. The Duke gave a great speech about the importance of local history and heritage to the local community , local identity and distinctiveness are key influences in quality of life and the general health and well being of the local area. He opened the museum by ringing the old Dalkeith Station bell which was on loan from the transport museum in Glasgow. For the two days following the official opening there was a trial opening to the public where the new museum volunteers could start to get used their role , helping visitors to appreciate the new museum and giving information about the history and heritage of the area.

The trial was a success so the museum will now be open to the public from Tuesday 21st June, over the next couple of months , Tuesday to Thursday 10am to 4.00pm, Friday am from 10.00am to 12.30pm and the first Saturday in the month in the am .
